The Dos Cabezas Mountains

At the northern end of the Chiricahuas sits the gold-rich range known as Dos Cabezas (in Spanish, two heads).  These photos clearly show the double peak that gives this range its name.

At the south end of the Dos Cabezas range lies notorious Apache Pass, where Fort Bowie was built in 1862 after Cochise and his father-in-law, the great Mangas Coloradas, ambushed the California Volunteers, a column of U.S. troops who were on their way to head off advancing Confederate soldiers (see BROKEN ARROW).
